CLINICAL DERMATOLOGY. LESIONS AND TREATMENTS.
Instituto Médico Láser has a team of dermatologists trained to deal with any dermatological condition using state-of-the-art technology.
CONFOCAL LASER MICROSCOPY
Histological real-time images for dermatology diagnosis
What is confocal laser microscopy?
It is a non-invasive microscopic observation system which obtains histological real-time images for dermatology diagnosis. This system permits the observation under microscope of the different skin layers, from the corneum to the deepest layer of the dermis without the need of a biopsy and without any preparations or adaptation of the specimen.
How does it work?
A confocal laser microscope emits a beam of light that focuses the illumination on a very small observation area, with very high intensity. Using a system of diaphragms or pinholes and dichroic mirrors, light from points outside the focal plane is eliminated and only the light inside the focal plane is selected. This is captured by a detector and is converted into a digitalised video signal and stored on the computer. The images can then be processed and analysed directly.
At Instituto Medico Laser, water or ultrasound gel is applied between the lens and the skin to be observed.
What are the advantages of confocal laser microscopy?
Non-invasive analysis of the skin
Painless
Fast, as specimens do not need processing or staining
Has high resolution and greater contrast
Optical sections can be performed and three-dimensional reconstruction techniques applied
Possibility of applying techniques on the digital images such as highlighting, combining images or intensifying areas
Infers the emission spectrum of a specific fluorochrome
Vitiligo
Vitiligo is a condition characterized by the presence of unpigmented spots in different locations and needs to be studied by a dermatologist prior to any treatment. Treatment possibilities include: therapeutic measures, being the application of ultraviolet light one of these measures. We also have a system called B-Clear, a system that emits narrow-band ultraviolet B light. With these systems we can treat lesions, achieving different degrees of repigmentation without having to expose the rest of the skin to the ultraviolet emission.
Psoriasis
PPsoriasis is a chronic condition that can be treated employing different therapeutic alternatives. Ultraviolet light has been shown to improve psoriasis lesions. At Instituto Médico Láser we have the B-Clear system, a device that emits UVB that allows us to treat the lesions without the need to expose healthy skin to ultraviolet light. The different treatment modalities can be combined to obtain the best therapeutic response.
Acne
There are several treatments for acne. Combination of several treatments is possible to achieve the best results. The application of peelings decreases the number of active lesions and attains very good results in the elimination of scars.
Rosacea
It is characterized by the presence of dilated vessels, facial reddening and acneiform lesions. The laser systems available at Instituto Médico Láser (V-Beam laser, Intense Pulsed Light) can treat reddened areas, telangiectasias, etc, with very good results. In some cases, it is necessary to combine other treatments to eliminate acneiform lesions. A dermatologist will decide what the best treatment is for you.
Hirsutism
Excess hair in certain areas requires an evaluation by the specialist. It is necessary to rule out the presence of any hormone alteration, which if confirmed, would require adequate treatment. Laser hair removal is of fundamental importance in this pathology. We offer a very complete laser platform that will help us achieve the best results.
Warts
The Derma-K Laser (Erbium and CO2) is useful to eliminate warts. With this laser warts are eliminated with minimal damage to surrounding tissues.
Melanocytic Nevus
All pigmented lesions should be evaluated by a dermatologist, who will determine their benign or malignant nature. Most pigmented lesions can be eliminated using laser technology (Alex-Lazr, CO2-Erbium).
Angiomas
Vascular lasers have become an essential instrument in the treatment of different vascular malformations. Evaluation of the condition is mandatory. A dermatologist will evaluate each case individually and will indicate any necessary explorations to determine what type of laser is best to obtain the best results. There are several systems available for the treatment of vascular malformations (V-Beam Laser, Nd-YAG, Pulsed Light systems), which allows us to enhance the results to a maximum.
Solar Lentigos
Solar lentigos are spots that appear in sun-exposed areas of the body such as face, hands and cleavage. This condition can be treated using the appropriate laser technology (Alex-Lazr laser, Pulsed Light).
Seborrheic Keratosis
These are pigmented lesions of a keratosic appearance that make the skin look old. The Derma-K laser (Erbium, CO2), a surgical laser, is useful to treat this condition with very good aesthetic results.
Fibromas
Fibromas are benign lesions that manifest in the neck, armpits and groin. Quite often these lesions can cause discomfort and are quite unflattering. The Derma-K laser (Erbium, CO2) is useful to remove fibromas easily and rapidly.
Skin Cancer
All skin lesions must be thoroughly evaluated by a dermatologist. Basocellular
Epitheliomas, spinocellular epitheliomas and melanoma require careful diagnosis and surgical treatment. Our team of dermatologists and plastic surgeons will inform you on the best therapeutic options available and the most adequate follow-up in each case.
