COUPEROSISWhat Is Couperosis?![]() Couperosis consists of dilated blood vessels on the face. It appears on people whose skin reddens with changes in temperature, emotions, alcohol or some foods. Genes, sun, and hormonal changes such as pregnancy can make it worse. What Systems Can Be Used To Treat Couperosis? The lasers used must be specific for this type of lesions. These systems selectively coagulate dilated capillary veins, maintaining the skin's integrity. Instituto Médico Láser offers the V Beam laser (595nm), which is specifically for small-caliber vascular lesions. Systems with stronger penetration capacity such as the VascuLight, Nd:YAG laser (1064nm) are used to treat deeper and thicker vessels. If necessary, treatment with these systems can be combined with IPL (Intense pulsed light) technology, in which the light beam is modified to reach the depth required allowing the treatment of different skin types. The specialist's assessment of each individual patient will ensure the use of appropriate system for a safe and effective treatment. What Do The Sessions And Recovery Consist Of?Treatment with the previously described systems does not require anaesthesia and are well tolerated by most patients. After the treatment session the area may become dark (scarlet) temporarily, but the appearance of scabs is rare. The specialist will instruct the patient on post-treatment care to follow. Make up is allowed which enables the patient to resume his/her daily life activities immediately after the procedure. Couperosis treatment usually involves 2-3 sessions.
