OTHER VASCULAR LESIONS THAT CAN BE TREATED WITH LASER SYSTEMS

Ruby Spots

Ruby spots  are very common in adults in the form of small red dots distributed along the trunk.  They are small capillary malformations and their treatment is simple.  With the appropriate technology, it is possible to remove them in just one session.

Angiomas

Angiomas:Before/After

Angiomas are red spots present at birth or a bit later. Some of them disappear spontaneously but others, such as port wine stains, may sometimes acquire very large and antiaesthetic dimensions. Treatment may require the use of several systems (V Beam- Nd-YAG) since angiomas may consist of superficial capillaries or tuberous vascular structures (cavernous haemangioma) in more advanced lesions. The specialist must always assess each case and decide on the most appropriate treatment.

Haemangioma

Haemangiomas are true benign tumours and may be red (capillary haemangioma) or more purplish (cavernous haemangioma). Capillary haemangioma usually disappears in the first decade of life, though sometimes complications such as bleeding, etc, require laser treatment. Cavernous haemangioma does not disappear and is best treated with a vascular laser and since it is a deep lesion, Nd-YAG laser is recommended.

The treatment for both haemangioma and angioma usually requires several sessions, between 4 and 8.
